Johnathan Jones Named Second Team All-America

NEW ORLEANS – Little Rock native Johnathan Jones was recognized Monday as he was named Second Team All-America following his top-10 finish in the high jump at the NCAA Championships.
 
The announcement, which included All-America honors for the entire 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season, came Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
 
Jones, who graduated from UA Little Rock this past semester with a 4.0 grade point average during the spring semester, becomes the seventh Trojan all-time to receive All-America honors and the first to do so while competing in a field event. It is the eighth All-America honor awarded to a Little Rock athlete all-time.
 
Previous Trojans to be named All-America include Keshawn Andrews (4x100m Relay), Ch'kilas Calhoun (4x100m Relay), Travion Clark (4x100m Relay), Chris Johnson (200m), Charles Okeze (200m, 4x100m Relay) and Leo Settle (200m).
 
The school record holder in the high jump, Jones finished 10^th at the national championships as he cleared 7-1 (2.16m). He was the highest-placing finisher at the NCAA Championships from an Ohio Valley Conference school and one of two OVC athletes bestowed All-America honors Monday.
 
Athletes of member institutions earned First-Team All-America status by finishing among the top-8 of their events – including as a member of a relay – at the 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Austin, Texas. Second-Team All-America honors went to those student-athletes who finished between ninth and 16th place.
 
Honorable mention went to those student-athletes who finished 17th through 24th in their respective events at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
