On Your Marks
  • For the first time since 2018, Little Rock's Team will be represented at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as Johnathan Jones competes in the high jump.
  • A Little Rock native, Jones will compete on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
  • Jones is the first Little Rock athlete to advance to the NCAA Championships in the high jump - or any field event.
  • This marks Jones' third time in the NCAA postseason (including the Preliminary rounds) but first trip to the semifinals/finals.
  • The Trojans are in their inaugural season as members of the Ohio Valley Conference and found immediate success in the more regionally balanced league than in their previous home.

Three Things to Know
  1. Third Time's the Charm
For the third consecutive season, Johnathan Jones is competing in the NCAA Postseason. But, for the first time in his career, he's advanced to the semifinal/final round at the NCAA Championships.
  2. Jones Clears 4.00
Little Rock's Johnathan Jones cleared a 4.00 this semester. Grades, that is. Receiving his degree in absentia due to competing at the OVC Championships, Jones graduated from his hometown university after posting a 4.0 GPA during the spring semester.
  3. Following Wakko
For Johnathan Jones to reach the NCAA Championships, all he's had to do is follow the path set out by Wakko. Yes, the lovable Animaniacs character once sang a song to the tune of "Turkey in the Straw" in Episode 21 of the cartoon show where he sang all the state capitols and that seems like it's the path Jones has taken. He began in Little Rock, and competed in Nashville, Tennessee and Topeka, Kansas during the indoor season. In the outdoor season, Jones qualified for the NCAA West Prelims in Sacramento, California and then advanced to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
