Archie Smith named Golfer of the Week by OVC

Little Rock senior Archie Smith picked up his first individual honor of the season Thursday, named Male Golfer of the Week by the Ohio Valley Conference. The native of Reading, England and reigning OVC individual champion earned the award for the second time in his career.
 
Smith finished tied for 14th at The Clerico, held at the Oaks Country Club in Tulsa. The senior had rounds of 74-68-75 to finish at 217 (+7) in a field that included 72 competitors. Smith made nine birdies during the event, playing in windy conditions. Overall Little Rock, who is ranked No. 36 nationally, finished tied for fifth in a field that included 13 teams, including two other squads ranked in the Top 30. Smith finished the fall season ranked fifth in the OVC in stroke average (71.9).
 
Smith is the third member of the Men's Golf team to earn the weekly conference award, joining Matteo Cristoni and Luka Roessler. The Trojans ended their fall season Tuesday with its fourth top five finish in five events, including a team championship earlier this month. Little Rock went 4-0 against SEC schools and notched four wins against teams ranked in the Top 25 nationally.
