FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. —
Cameron Jackson and
Nicholas Newby met the marks Wednesday during the first day of competition at the NCAA West Prelims, and advance to Friday's quarterfinals at John McDonnell Field on the University of Arkansas campus. Jackson and Newby will join
Dion Murombe in competition Friday with the top 12 from each event advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Murombe will compete in the triple jump with the top 12 marks advancing, while the running events will take the top 3 from each heat and the next three fastest finishers.

Jackson clocked a 10.35 in the 100 meters to qualify in the 22
nd of 24 quarterfinal spots, while Newby went for 1:48.78 in the 800 meters to also grab the 22
nd of 24 spots in Friday's quarterfinal round. Jackson had also qualified in the 200 meters but was disqualified for stepping on the line.

"I'm so proud of all seven of these guys. They competed hard, knowing it was advance or go home," said
J.P. Behnke, Director of Track & Field. "I'm very excited for Nick and Cameron for qualifying for the quarterfinals on Friday. Frankie was ranked 47th coming into the 400 hurdles and finished 35th. Cogan ended his Trojan career by coming up just short in both the 100 hurdles and 200."

Little Rock almost had a third athlete advance out of Wednesday's first round but just missed by 0.01 seconds as
Cogan DeRousselle came up just short in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.77, a personal best for the senior out of Channelview, Tex. DeRousselle also finished 33
rd in the 200 meters with a time of 21.04.

Andrew Payton holds the school record in the 1500 meters, but finished 45
th on Wednesday with a time of 3:49.67.
Matthew Tyeskie was 30
th in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing a banner year for the freshman out of Kilgore, Tex. Tyeskie won the event at the OVC Championships, breaking the meet record twice.
Frankie Grey finished 36
th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.61.
Troy McKnight clocked a 10.61 in the 100 meters to finish 43
rd.

Friday's schedule will have the triple jump at 6 pm, the 100 meters at 6:35 pm, and the 800 meters at 7:05 pm. The meet is available for live streaming on ESPN+.
