SAN FRANCISCO – Matty Bianchi has been named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week, his second career weekly conference honor as well as the third for the Little Rock wrestling team this season. Bianchi's upset victory at 157 pounds versus #2 Oklahoma State this past Friday gave the Trojans a lead over the Cowboys, and the redshirt junior picked up his first fall of the year. It is the first time that the program has garnered more than two conference awards in a single season.
Matty Bianchi went into his bout against #12 Fish. Despite a hard ride by his opponent in the previous period, Matty fought through the fatigue and found a way to power through on top, tilting and securing a headlock en route to a pin in the third period. He gave Little Rock a 13-12 lead against Oklahoma State in front of a loud home crowd - a record-breaking attendance for the Trojans. Click here to read the full recap of the dual.
This marks the seventh weekly conference award that has gone to the Trojans as well as the the fourth season in a row that a Trojan has earned a conference honor. Both Nasir Bailey and Jordan Williams were recognized last month, proving the team's depth. All-time honorees for the program are listed below.
Bianchi and the Little Rock wrestling team will wrap up their dual slate this weekend on the road, visiting Cal Poly and CSU-Bakersfield for a trio of duals against the host teams as well as North Dakota State.
