PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Little Rock fell behind by six runs in the fourth inning against Arkansas-Pine Bluff Tuesday and couldn't complete the comeback in a 7-4 loss at the Torii Hunter Baseball complex.
The Trojans (6-10) won't have to wait long to get revenge as they play host to the Golden Lions (1-15) Wednesday at 3:05 p.m., at Gary Hogan Field. Little Rock, who had beaten UAPB in six straight games, is 22-1 in home games in the series, which dates back to 1977.
"'We just need to regroup," Trojans head coach
Chris Curry said. "This is an in-state rivalry game, and when we play these games a lot of the kids know each other and get up for these games. We have had some hard-fought games with UAPB over the years. We just need to get ready to play tomorrow."
UAPB took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second and made it 4-0 after three.
The Trojans got a run back in the top of the fourth when
Kade Goeke walked with bases loaded.
Reed Willbanks ended the inning by roping a line drive to left field, but UAPB's Carlos Rodriguez made a diving catch to end the threat.
UAPB scored three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-1 lead, but Little Rock did chip away at it.
Ty Rhoades' two-run home run made it 7-3 in the sixth inning and
Alex Seguine made it 7-4 in the seventh on a sacrifice fly. The Trojans left the bases loaded in the seventh and couldn't put anything together in the final two frames.
"We need to be way more consistent offensively," Curry said. "We aren't doing our part scoring runs. We've got to get better there."
