LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A pair of record-setting performances last weekend earned two Trojans weekly honors from the Ohio Valley Conference as
Tyler Moore and
Aaliyah Mathis were named OVC Athletes of the Week on Wednesday.
Tyler Moore – Male Track Athlete of the Week
Tyler picked up his third weekly OVC award of the season (March 26 and April 2) after setting a facility record at the Coleman Athletic Complex during the Little Rock Invitational last Friday. Moore ran a blistering 51.55 in the men's 400-meter hurdles, topping the previous best mark set by former Little Rock teammate
Frankie Grey. Moore currently leads the OVC in the event with a personal best and school record time of 50.82, which also ranks 23
rd in the NCAA.
Aaliyah Mathis – Female Field Athlete of the Week
Aaliyah earned her second weekly honor of the season (April 2) after winning two gold medals, setting a new school record in the discus and a Coleman record in the shot put. Mathis threw for 168-1 in the discus, topping her previous school record by more than two feet (165-7) and then hurled the shot put 49-4.5, which almost matched her own school record of 49-5.75. Mathis currently ranks first in the OVC in both events.
The Little Rock Track and Field teams are off this weekend and return to action next week as the team will split between two meets – the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 24-26, and the Arkansas State Alumni Classic in Jonesboro on April 25-26.
