LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – After falling behind 6-0 to the University of Tennessee at Martin in the fifth inning, Little Rock tried to rally but fell 11-6 Sunday at Gary Hogan Field. The game was the home finale for the Trojans this season and before the game, eight seniors in the program were honored.
The Skyhawks (20-30, 11-12 OVC) struck with four runs in the first inning. They added a pair in the fifth, but the Trojans got back in the game.
Cooper Chaplain scored on a passed ball, and
Alex Seguine delivered a two-RBI double.
Cade Martin was thrown out at home. Still, the Trojans had cut the lead in half.
The Skyhawks led 7-3 in the seventh when Little Rock (19-29, 8-13 OVC) rallied again. Sammie Harris laced a pinch-hit single to right field scoring Seguine, who was 3-for-5, and
Reed Willbanks.
At the end of seven, UTM led 7-5, but they put the game away with three runs in the eighth and a lone run in the ninth. Little Rock scored one more time on a
Ty Rhoades solo homer in the eighth. Rhoades finished the game 2-for-5.
Zack Busick stared the game for Little Rock and takes the loss pitching one inning.
The Trojans end the regular season Thursday at Cape Girardeau, Mo., with a three-game series with SEMO. The Redhawks are 7-5 in league play and sit in fifth place. The Trojans currently are in eighth and own the final playoff spot. They are a game ahead of Western Illinois for the final spot. WIU must play at rival Eastern Illinois, who is in second place.
