LITTLE ROCK — The 2025 volleyball season begins Saturday with a special exhibition, as Little Rock welcomes Arkansas to the Jack Stephens Center for the first time. Saturday's match will begin at 1 pm and while there will be no live stream of the event, tickets can be purchased at the door for $15.
Little Rock and Arkansas met during spring competition, with the Trojans winning a 3-1 contest played in Fort Smith, but this is the first time the Razorbacks will be the true road team. Little Rock is 1-5 all-time against Arkansas in regular season competition, with all five previous contests played in Fayetteville.
Last season, the Trojans fell 3-0 to Arkansas in the final match of the Wooo Pig Invitational, but all three sets were closely contested with scores of 25-23, 25-18, and 25-23.
Bella Cherry had 13 kills,
Jaycee Kennedy had five blocks and
Dariana Valencia posted a double-double with 20 assists and 11 digs.
Last season, the Trojans finished 16-16 overall and 11-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference, falling in the first round of the OVC tournament. Arkansas finished its season 16-12 overall and 6-10 in the SEC, missing out on the conference tournament.
Little Rock will host its annual Alumni Match on Sunday at 2 pm, then open the regular season next weekend at the Lion Invitational, hosted by East Texas A&M on Aug. 29-30. The Trojans open the event with two matches on Friday – North Texas at 10 am and East Texas A&M at 7 pm – then wrap it up with an 11 am match Saturday against Providence.
