WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Little Rock men's golf opened play at the Bryan Brothers Invitational on Sunday, with a pair of newcomers leading the way after the first round at Solina Golf Club.
Freshmen
Vigo Talsmaki and
Mark Stockdale each carded a 1-under 71, finishing the day tied for 23rd and just four strokes off the individual lead. Four players share the top spot at 5-under par.
The tournament, hosted by the University of South Carolina, was moved up a day due to heavy rain in the forecast. The 54-hole event will conclude with two rounds on Monday.
As a team, the Trojans sit in 11th place at 4-over par.
Ed Featherstone turned in a 2-over 74 to sit in a tie for 49th, while
Elliott Simonsen finished at 4-over (66th).
"It was a very tough start to the round," Little Rock head coach
Austin Eoff said. "We salvaged it in the middle, and then let it slip the last few holes. We have to make better decisions and play the Par 5s better Monday to climb back up the leaderboard. There is a lot of golf left and rain moving in during tomorrow's round so we have a great opportunity to move way up the leaderboard."
