LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – For Daniel Fox, Friday night's Little Rock Hall of Fame induction was a celebration of an improbable career.
The Australian golfer came to Little Rock in 1998 to play for former coach Wyn Norwood. He found the Little Rock program by perusing a Ping directory that included all of the college programs.
Fox acclimated quickly and etched his name in Trojans history finishing No. 5 in the nation in 2001.
When received the call last summer that he had been elected to the Little Rock Athletics Hall of Fame, he was "shocked." Friday night at the induction ceremony that drew more than 200 people, he was emotional as he recalled how much Norwood and his Trojan career means to him.
"I've just been very lucky. … We didn't really come from money, so I was really lucky to get an offer," Fox said. "I had some friends that signed that didn't receive what they were promised, so it worked out really well for me. I have just been so fortunate to find [Norwood.]."
It was a special and reflective night for all of the 2026 inductees which included:
- Joe Foley, Head Women's Basketball Coach (2003-24)
- The 2015–16 Men's Basketball Team
- Edina Begic (Volleyball, 2011-14)
- Dr. Mel Collazo (Men's Tennis, 1975–76)
- Daniel Fox (Men's Golf, 1998–2001)
- Taylor Gault (Women's Basketball, 2011–15)
- Dave Woodman, Broadcaster and Public Address Announcer (2004-present)
Attendees gathered on the main floor of the Jack Stephens Center and enjoyed pre-ceremony reception and then video presentation and a Q&A with inductees and emcee Trey Schaap.
"I am so honored to even be considered," Collazo said. "My heart is just full of gratitude. I guess that is the best way I can describe it. Not only the athletic program and the athletics program, but the school really molded me as a person. Not only as a person but as a husband a father and a friend and teammate and as a doctor."
Foley may be the most successful coach of any sport in school history, and Gault was one of several players who helped him turn the Little Rock program from an afterthought to a power.
"I had chances to leave Arkansas, but I never wanted to. I love Arkansas and Little Rock," Foley said. "This was a great opportunity for me to build something and win at a program that wasn't accustomed to it."
The night concluded with a session with five members of one of Little Rock's most successful teams – the 2015-16 men's basketball team which finished 30-5 and beat fifth-seeded Purdue in the NCAA Tournament – Roger Woods, Maurius, Hill, Marcus Johnson Junior, Jermaine Ruttley and Stetson Billings.
"I have so many great memories," said Woods, who was a third-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection. "Coming to the games and seeing people lined up to come in was awesome. This was a special team that was always prepared. Our coaching staff made sure of that."
Last summer Little Rock athletics announced its Hall of Fame will induct members every two years and include a ceremony the weekend of a home basketball game.
"This Hall of Fame class truly represents the heart and soul of Little Rock Athletics," said Director of Athletics
Frank M. Cuervo. "From championship teams and record-setting coaches to trailblazing student-athletes and voices, this group embodies excellence, perseverance, and what it means to be a Trojan. Celebrating these seven honorees together—surrounded by teammates, family, and our campus community—was a powerful reminder of the standard they have set for generations to come."
