MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Little Rock men's golf team sits in ninth place at even par after two rounds of the Michael A. Marino Classic at the historic Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
The Trojans opened the tournament with a three-over-par round before responding with a three-under performance to move back to even par as a team. Little Rock is competing in a strong NCAA Division I field hosted by Coastal Carolina University.
Due to rain in the forecast, tournament coaches agreed to adjust the schedule. Teams played the first nine holes of the second round Sunday, with the final nine holes of that round scheduled to be completed Monday. The final round of 18 holes will be played Tuesday.
Head coach
Austin Eoff said the Trojans have positioned themselves well midway through the tournament despite a few costly mistakes.
"We just have to clean up a few uncharacteristic mistakes out there today," Eoff said. "We have made the second most birdies in the field through 27 holes. We just need to do a better job of holding onto them."
At the top of the leaderboard, Liberty University leads the tournament at 12-under par, followed by University of Louisville at 11-under and North Carolina State University at 10-under.
Trojan Leaderboard
Three Trojans are currently tied for 19th place at one-under par through two rounds.
Viggo Talasmaki paced the Trojans with a two-under round and sits at one-under for the tournament.
Ed Featherstone is also tied for 19th at one-under after an even-par round.
Elliott Simonsen is close behind at even par for the tournament and sits in 27th place.
Mark Stockdale finished the day at two-over par and is in 41st place overall.
Rhett South rounds out the Trojans lineup in 65th place at five-over.
Competing as an individual,
Alexander Rowland sits in 89th place at 12-over.
Eoff said the Trojans remain well positioned as weather moves into the area and the tournament heads toward the final two rounds.
"Halfway through the event and still right there, especially with the challenging wind, rain, and cold temperatures moving into the area," Eoff said.
