STANFORD, Calif. – Competing against one of the nation's strongest fields, Little Rock opened play at The Goodwin on Thursday at the Stanford Golf Course and will continue competition Friday and Saturday.
The Trojans sit 23rd overall at +10 (6742) after the opening round of play in a field loaded with nationally ranked programs, including host Stanford, Long Beach State, and New Mexico.
Little Rock was led by
Ed Featherstone, who paced the Trojans with an even-par 70, turning in one of the team's most consistent rounds of the day. Featherstone carded a steady performance across both nines to keep Little Rock within striking distance heading into round two.
Elliott Simonsen followed closely at +2 (72), giving the Trojans a solid one-two punch at the top of the lineup. Simonsen's round featured strong stretches of consistent scoring to stay near even par throughout the day.
Rhett South and
Mark Stockdale each finished at +4 (74), providing key depth in the scoring lineup, while
Viggo Talasmaki rounded out the Trojans' effort at +8 (78).
Through 18 holes, Little Rock finds itself in the middle of a tightly packed leaderboard, with several teams within reach as the tournament heads into Friday's second round.
Host Stanford leads the field at -11, followed closely by Long Beach State (-10) and New Mexico (-9).
