Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Arkansas State's Stephanie Ray scored her first two goals of the season on Friday afternoon to lead the Lady Indians to a 2-0 win over the Arkansas-Little Rock women's soccer team. After playing to a 0-0 tie at the half, UALR (2-11-1, 1-4) was forced to play the final 35 minutes of the game with just 10 players after senior Stacie St. Julian picked up her second yellow card of the contest.
The 10-man Trojan squad kept the match scoreless for the next 17 minutes after St. Julian's exit, but Ray broke the tie with a shot to the top right corner of the goal, which just escaped senior Marsha Stewart's reach. Ray rang again just over eight minutes later when she punched in the rebound off a free kick by Shawna Sparks.
ASU's Brielan Smiechowski came up with five clutch saves to help the Lady Indians (4-7, 1-2) snap their 17-game losing streak on the road. Stewart finished with seven saves in the loss, including a diving stab in the first half which prevented a sure goal.
Freshmen Cindy Jenkins and Maria Ferrato led UALR with three shots a piece and accounted for four of the team's five shots on goal.
The Trojans hit the road next week for Sun Belt games at Denver (Oct. 14) and North Texas (Oct. 16). After that, UALR welcomes Middle Tennessee (Oct. 21) and Western Kentucky (Oct. 23) for its final home games of the 2005 season.
