BOX SCORE
LITTLE ROCK, Ark.
- Rachel Alexander scored in the
86th minute of Sunday's match to give the Centenary Ladies a hard-fought
1-0 win over the Arkansas-Little Rock women's soccer team. The two squads
appeared headed to overtime before Alexander beat senior keeper Marsha
Stewart on a rebound for the contest's only score with 3:59 to play.
The Trojans (1-7-1) had nine shots on goal,
but could not get past Centenary's Ali Hilsher, who finished with nine
saves in the win. Centenary totaled eight shots on goal, finally beating
Stewart in the closing minutes.
Alexander got close to the box and let loose
with a shot that Stewart was able to save. UALR's keeper, however, was
unable to keep hold of the ball, allowing Stewart to punch in the rebound
for the game-winning goal.
Sunday's contest marked the final warm-up for
the Trojans before Sun Belt Conference play begins next weekend. UALR
opens league play at South Alabama on Friday, Sept. 23, before traveling
to Troy on Sunday, Sept. 25.
