JONESBORO, Ark. -
Stephen F. Austin (2-1) rode a pair of goals from Kristel Lindsey to a 5-0
win over the Arkansas-Little Rock women's soccer team at the ASU Lady
Indian Invitational on Friday. Ravaged by injures, the Trojans trailed 2-0
at the break after a late goal but were forced to play a man down the
entire second half.
"It has been a frustrating season so far, but
it is still very early. We just have way too many injuries right now. We
played with them (Stephen F. Austin) for 45 minutes, but it's hard to
comeback when you are short a player," said UALR head coach Greg Hess.
"The results so far are in now way a reflection of what this team is
capable of when healthy. We've got potential season-ending injuries to
four starters and that is tough to overcome. Hopefully we can keep our
heads up and turn this thing around."
The Ladyjacks took a 1-0 lead at the 34:04
mark when Amanda Lackey beat senior Marsha Stewart on an unassisted
goal. Lindsey made it a 2-0 contest with under five minutes remaining when
she made good off an assist from Andrea Ramirez. SFA tacked on three more
goals in the second half against the shorthanded Trojans. Stewart came up
with five saves in the loss.
UALR (0-3) returns to action Sunday
afternoon with a 1 p.m. bout against Tulsa in Jonesboro, Ark.
