JONESBORO, Ark. -
The Arkansas-Little Rock women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 3-0
decision to Tulsa (1-2-1) in the team's final game of the ASU Lady Indian
Invitational on Sunday. Decimated by injuries, the Trojans (0-4) played
the entire game without any subs and were forced to play their two backup
goalkeepers (Lydia Dolter and Ashley Bocarrossa) in the
field.
"It is unfortunate that to this point in the
season, we haven't had much depth. Today we were forced to play without
any subs and had to put Lydia and Ashley in the field just to have enough
players," said UALR head coach Greg Hess.
The Golden Hurricanes held a slim 1-0 lead at the half thanks to a goal by
Ashley Rickner at the 23:57 mark. Carrie Schnarre and Krista Barker were
both credited with assists on the goal.
Tulsa extended its lead to 2-0, 64:36 into the contest when Jamie German
found the back of the net off an assist by Jennifer Kacergis. German then
fed Schnarre with 72:37 on the clock for Tulsa's final goal of the
afternoon.
"Even though we lost today, this was the best this team has played all
year long. The girls worked very hard today in spite of everything else
that's going on," said Hess. "As rough as things have been going so far,
it is good to know that they are still working hard. We should get some of
our injured players back real soon and if the team can remain positive,
I'm sure we will be able to get things moving in the right direction."
Senior defender Laura Cook was rewarded for her solid play over the
weekend with a spot on the 11-player Lady Indian Invitational
All-Tournament team, the only Trojan to receive the honor.
UALR will look to break into the win column on Wednesday, Sept. 7
when the team visits Louisiana-Monroe at 5 p.m.
