Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? Sophomore Shane Landry threw 8.2 solid innings on Wednesday to lead Arkansas-Little Rock (8-5) to a 5-3 win over Memphis (4-2) at Gary Hogan Field. Landry (1-1) scattered four hits over his start and blanked the Tigers over the final six innings to pick up his first Division-I win.
UALR banged out 14 hits on the afternoon, led by four from junior Ryan Gotcher and three from freshman Drew Gray. The duo combined to score four of the Trojans' five runs in the win.
Memphis took a 3-0 lead in to the bottom of the third, but managed just two hits over the final seven innings, as two RBI from both senior Jacob Stover and junior Matt King gave the Trojans enough offense to pick up their fourth-consecutive victory. Landry, who retired eight straight at one point, pitched all the way in to the ninth before Adam Miller came on with one on and two out. Miller promptly forced Will Peterson to fly out to seal the win and pick up his first save of the year.
The Tigers pushed across two runs in the top of the second after loading the bases with one out on a walk and two singles. Ben Grisham drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the first run and Cory Barton followed with a sacrifice fly to right to make it a 2-0 contest.
Michael Murray opened the third with a leadoff walk and moved in to scoring position off a balk by Landry. Two groundouts brought Murray around to score and extended Memphis' lead to three runs, 3-0.
Gray and Gotcher sparked the Trojans in the bottom of the third, opening the frame with back-to-back singles. Stover put UALR on the scoreboard with a RBI base knock before King tied the game with a two-run single through the right side.
Gray and Gotcher made Memphis pay again in the fourth, as Gotcher followed a leadoff double by the freshman catcher with a RBI triple to right center. A single to right by Stover allowed Gotcher to score, putting the Trojans on top 5-3.
Memphis managed just two hits over the final six innings, and was retired in order in three of those frames. Landry's final line featured four hits, three runs, six walks and three strikeouts.
Stephen Gostkowski (0-1) was credited with the loss after surrendering nine hits and five runs over 4.0 frames. Drew Jaudon closed out the game with 4.0 scoreless frames for the Tigers. Robbie Goss accounted for two of Memphis' four hits in the losing effort.
UALR next hits the road for a three-game series with Murray State, beginning with a double-header on Saturday at noon.
