Box Score MOBILE, Ala. ? The UALR women's soccer team (2-6, 0-1 Sun Belt) dropped its Sun Belt Conference opener on Friday night at South Alabama, falling 4-0 to the Jaguars (3-6, 1-0). Samantha Stocker scored a pair of first-half goals and assisted on another to lead the way for South Alabama.
Stocker scored her first goal with 12:37 on the clock off a pass from Kelly Tarrant, then tallied her second goal of the game just 1:16 later to make it a 2-0 contest. The two tallies brought her season total to five goals.
The game remained 2-0 throughout most of the second half, until Stocker fed Carly Williams for a goal at the 79:25 mark. Tiara Smith capped off the Jaguars' scoring seven minutes later with an unassisted goal to bring the game to its 4-0 finale.
The Trojans totaled five corner kicks, eight shots and five shots on goal in the loss. Sophomore Jessica Beaver accounted for four of the team's five shots on goal, but USA keeper Kelsie Langford recorded a save on each shot to pick up the shutout win.
“We had some good chances to score, we just didn't get the ball in the net, which is the story of the season so far,” said UALR head coach Greg Hess. “It's a tough loss to take. I felt it was a much more even game than the score showed. We're pretty disappointed in tonight's outcome.”
Senior Ashley Boccarossa worked all 90 minutes in goal for the Trojans and finished with a season-high eight saves against a South Alabama squad which totaled 15 shots on the night.
UALR returns to action on Sunday when it takes on Troy at noon.
