Trojan Soccer Handed 4-0 Setback to FAU

Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. ? After a lengthy delay to start the game and the threat of more stoppage due to a severe thunderstorm warning, the UALR Trojan soccer team (9-9, 4-5) fell to Florida Atlantic (7-7-2, 4-4-1) by a score of 4-0 Friday evening.

Both teams played back-and-forth ball, but FAU struck first in the 40th minute when Alicia Tirelli found the back of the net to put Owls up 1-0. The teams went into halftime with FAU up 1-0, but when the teams returned to the field, the Owls piled on the pressure and scored three more goals in the final 45 minutes to seal the victory.

Tirelli added another goal in the 50th minute before preseason All-Conference pick Susanna Lehtinen notched her sixth goal of the season. Monique Cabrera added the fourth goal in the 82nd minute.

The Trojans were held shotless in the first half and could only muster one shot in the second half coming from Danielle Dunsworth.

UALR returns to the pitch this Sunday Oct. 28 in Miami as they take on Florida International University at noon. The Trojans will look to right the ship against a Panthers team that won its first conference matchup Friday night when they defeated Arkansas State 3-2.
