Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. ? The UALR Trojans soccer team (7-5) tasted defeat in the Sun Belt Conference as they fell to Louisiana-Lafayette (5-5-2) by a 4-0 score. The loss snapped UALR's win streak at five and halted their consecutive shutout streak at three games.
“We looked like a whole different team than the one that won five games in a row,” said head coach Greg Hess. “We've played opponents that they (Louisiana-Lafayette) have played and come away with the victory. I have to give them credit for tonight. They wanted it more tonight. Whenever we had a chance, there was someone there defending us. It was a shame that when they got the ball, we didn't have someone on them.”
The Ragin' Cajuns started out quick against the Trojans as Courtney Hofland scored in the first minute against Jane Picarelli. It didn't stay 1-0 for long as Kelli Jestes scored on a breakway in the 15th minute to put the Trojans down two early.
Hofland found the back of the net once again in the 51st minute to put the Cajuns ahead by three. The score stayed 3-0 until Katie Fisse fired from point blank in front of Picarelli in the 88th minute.
The Trojans were only able to get four shots on goal for the match, two from Stefanie Di Francesco and two from Grace Rich, but that was not enough to get past Kristen Malen.
Picarelli did make seven saves on the night for the Trojans, but walked away with the loss.
UALR will look to right the ship on Sunday as they take on the ULM Warhawks in Monroe, La. Game time is set for 1 pm.
“We need to forget tonight,” said Hess. “It's going to be tough. We settled tonight for stuff we haven't settled on in the past five games. We need a whole new mentality. If we don't settle, I like our chances on Sunday, and we have yet to lose a game on Sunday this year.”
