Box Score TULSA, Okla. ? The UALR Trojans women's soccer team (2-4) fought hard against Oral Roberts (3-3) but could not find offensive footing, falling to the Golden Eagles by a 2-0 score Friday night.
“Oral Roberts is a very good team,” said head coach Greg Hess. “They play at a good pace. We were a little flat in the first half. At halftime, we made some adjustments and I think we dominated for about 20 minutes in the half. The rest of the half we played evenly. We had some opportunities on offense, but we just panicked a little. Playing teams like Oral Roberts will help us in the long run.”
The Golden Eagles didn't take long to put pressure on the Trojans. At the end of the 15th minute, the Golden Eagles' Melissa Ranberger got a shot past Trojan goalie Jane Picarelli. The score would remain 1-0 until the 68th minute when the Golden Eagles' Shakira Duncan got her own rebound and shot the ball off the post into the back of the net to make the score 2-0.
Picarelli took the loss and made six saves against a Golden Eagles team that sent 21 shots her way. Trojan forward Alex Rustad led the Trojan offense, sending six shots toward Golden Eagles goalie Stef Gurley. Trojans Grace Rich and Leanne Mihelich had one shot on goal each in the game.
The Trojans return to action Sunday Sept. 16 as they take on the Tulsa Hurricanes in the second match of the Oral Roberts/Tulsa Invitational. Game time is scheduled for 11 am.
