Box Score
NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? For the first time this season, the UALR Trojan women's soccer team (1-3) failed to register a goal, as they fell to Belmont (3-0) by a 2-0 score. The last time the Trojans were shutout was in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament to No. 1 seed Denver.
“The box score doesn't really tell the tale of the game,” said head coach Greg Hess. “I thought we outplayed them in the first half. That first goal they (Belmont) scored took a weird bounce and got past Jane (Picarelli). We definitely had some opportunities but they played great defense against us. In the second half, you could tell Belmont picked up the pace. We had a miscommunication problem and let (Porter) get behind the defense. We did score a goal, but that got called back because we were offsides.”
Belmont sent 15 shots to Trojan goalie Jane Picarelli, but a goal in each half doomed the Trojans to another loss. Belmont got on the board with almost 15 minutes to go in the first half when Belmont's Ivy Bentley scored her first goal of the season. UALR tried to keep it close but in the 69th minute, the Bruins' Madison Porter added an insurance goal to seal the victory for Belmont. Both goals came unassisted and Porter's shot was straight up the middle.
Picarelli stopped 11 shots for the Trojans as the team suffered from a lack of offense for the first time all year. Only the Trojans' Alex Rustad and Dana Sahd could get shots on goal against Belmont's goalies Micaela Crowley and Zirka Thompson.
The Trojans will look to right the ship Sunday Sept. 9 when they take on the Lipscomb Lady Bisons at 4:00 pm in Nashville, Tenn.
