Box Score
DENVER Colo. ? The
Denver Pioneers (14-1-2, 7-0-1) remained undefeated in Sun Belt Conference play
as they were able to knock off the UALR Trojans (6-10-1, 2-5) by the score of
3-1.
Denver wasted no time getting on the
scoreboard as Jessie Rogers scored her second goal of the 2008 season off of a
corner kick pass from teammate Mariah Johnston in the 7th minute.
The Trojans came back with a vengeance, however, as Grace Rich scored the first goal for
UALR since Oct. 5 in the 25th minute. With the goal, Rich now has a team-high
10 goals this year.
The Pioneers would manage another goal before the first
period came to a close, taking back the momentum. Bria Beardsley converted a
goal off of a penalty kick in the 32nd minute and Denver would not look back from that point.
Neither team would score over the next 55 minutes until Denver's Kellie
Breidenbach scored her fourth goal of the season on a pass from Taryn Hemmings
to cap off the 3-1 final. With just a little over two and a half minutes left
to play, the Trojans were unable to make a comeback.
Denver, who is a top the Sun Belt
standings, outshot the Trojans by the count of 22 to 10. Denver goalkeeper Mackenzie Snyder recorded
eight saves in the contest.
In addition to scoring the only goal for the Trojans, Rich
also led the team with three other shots, all of which were on goal.
UALR returns to action next Friday on Oct. 24
when they host Florida International at Burns Park.
Game time is set for 7 p.m.
