Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. ? The UALR Trojans soccer team (2-4) was able to rebound from a 3-0 loss to Miami on Friday night by getting a road win over the Centenary Ladies (1-3) by a margin of 2-1.
UALR, who had just one shot on Friday night, improved immensely, having 23 shots with 10 of those being on goal. The Trojans defense held the Ladies to the one goal on 11 shots with three on goal.
Trojan freshman midfielder Taylor Gabbert opened the scoring when she took a pass form Rachael Maina in the 12th minute and beat Centenary goalkeeper Deb Hill for her first career goal.
Centenary would tie the game, however, late in the first period as Kristine Weaver connected from 20 yards out to make the score 1-1.
UALR came out for halftime and quickly got the go-ahead score. In the 53rd minute, Grace Rich got her second goal of the year as she placed a ball in the lower corner of the net past goalkeeper Kate Donnelly, making the score 2-1. Stephanie Schneidau was credited with an assist on the play.
The Trojans defense did the rest of the work for the remaining of the game as they fended off seven second half shots from the Ladies.
UALR is back on the field for their first mid-week match of the season on Tuesday night. The Trojans will remain in Louisiana as they travel to Natchitoches to take on Northwestern State. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
