- The UALR
Trojans soccer team (7-11-1, 4-6-1) concluded their regular season today with a
1-0 loss to rival Arkansas State in a game that was played at Paragould High School.
Today's game was originally scheduled for 3 p.m. but heavy
rain left the field at ASU Soccer Park unplayable so the game was moved to an
all-turf surface and played at 1 p.m.
The Red Wolves (7-9-2, 4-5-1), scored the game's only goal
in the 74th minute when Ashley McMurty converted a shot from 25 yards out after
a corner kick.
The Trojans had their chances today as they posted 14
shots with eight coming on frame, but ASU goalkeeper Susan Brown had eight
saves on way to earning her fourth shutout of the year.
UALR's offensive attack was led by freshman Kamiya Merrick, who tallied four shots
with two on goal. Junior midfielder Danielle
Dunsworth had three shots with two on target in 69 minutes and freshman
forward Dana Pearson had two shots
with one on goal off the bench.
The Trojans will now turn their focus to the Sun Belt
Conference Tournament where they will enter the tournament as a No. 8 seed. As
of now, the UALR opponent in the opening round would be Florida International
but depending on Friday evening's games that is subject to change. The
tournament is set to get underway next Wednesday, Nov. 4 in Boca Raton, Fla.
