MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The
UALR Trojans soccer team (1-1) dropped their first road game of the 2009 season
by the score of 4-0 to the Memphis Tigers (2-0) Friday night at Echles Field. 
The Trojans had just one shot on the evening compared to Memphis' 26 shots, 14 of
which were on goal. Sophomore midfielder Taylor
Gabbert had the only shot of the evening for the Trojans. 
Memphis, who is ranked 25th in the latest poll by Soccer America, jumped out in front of
the Trojans in the seventh minute when Lizzy Semonin scored her first goal of
the season off a pass from teammate Vendula Strnadova.
The Tigers struck again in the 23rd minute when Ashley
Berra connected, beating UALR goalkeeper Jane
Picarelli, one on one. Simonin, was credited with an assist after serving
the ball from beyond midfield. 
Memphis took a 3-0 advantage just five minutes later when
Julia Ignacio rebounded a miss by Simonin and connected for her first goal of
the season. Simonin was credited with the assist, finishing the evening with a
goal and a pair of assists. 
After the break, the Memphis
attack was slowed but the Tigers managed one more goal in the 60th minute when
Strnadova connected from 10 yards out. 
The Trojans played two goalkeepers for the second
consecutive game as Picarelli made the start and freshman Michelle Pittman played the entire second half recording four
saves. 
UALR returns to action Sunday as they try to
improve to 2-0 at home on the year when they host Centenary College.
Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Burns Park Soccer Complex.
