Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The UALR Trojans soccer team (1-2)
failed to garner their second victory of the young season Sunday afternoon at
Burns Park as they fell to the Centenary Ladies (2-0) by the score of 2-1.
The Trojans outshot the Ladies 19 to 11 and had eight
shots on goal compared to Centenary's seven, but were unable to convert with an
equalizer down the stretch. Centenary goalkeeper Kate Donnelly was a big part
of that as she finished the day with seven saves.
The Ladies dented the scoreboard first as Courtney Morris
scored her second goal of the season off a cross pass from teammate Katie
Valdez in the 11th minute.
UALR didn't wait long to tie the game up, however. In the
24th minute, sophomore Rachael Maina beat
the defense and then the goalie as she connected from 15 yards out for the
equalizing goal.
Neither team found the back of the net again until
Centenary's Allison Rucinski scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute
off a beautiful pass from Chelsea Granger.
Of UALR's 19 shots, Danielle
Dunsworth and Maina had five apiece while sophomore Christiana Veasley had three shots with one being on goal.
UALR will try to get back in the win column
again on Friday, Sept. 4 when they play host to Missouri State.
Game time at Burns Park Soccer Complex is set for 5 p.m.
