Box Score

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The UALR Trojans soccer team (2-3) picked up its second victory of the 2009 campaign Wednesday evening as they defeated the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2-1-2) by the final score of 2-0 at Burns Park.

The shutout marked the second time the Trojans have blanked their opponents this season with the first coming in the season opener against Murray State. It also marks the 11th career shutout for junior goalkeeper Jane Picarelli. Picarelli finished the contest with two saves.

UALR opened the scoring in the 29th minute when sophomore Jacquelyn Paz found the back of the net for the first time in her career after she dribbled around a defender and scored from 10 yards out. Aubrey Tafoya was credited with her first assist of the season on the play.

At the end of the first half, the Trojans had 15 shots with nine being on goal while the Golden Lions had just three shots, two of which were on frame.

In the second half, junior Danielle Dunsworth widened the gap to 2-0 in the 73rd minute when she scored on a penalty kick after being fouled in the box. The goal for Dunsworth was her first of the year and the first since her freshman season in 2007.

For the game, UALR posted 26 shots with 14 on the mark compared to the Golden Lions' six shots and two on goal. Dunsworth led the way with six shots for the Trojans, Paz had five attempts and freshman Dana Pearson tallied four shots with three being on target.

UAPB had two goalkeepers participate in the contest as Chelsea Klein started and had eight saves before giving way to Bre-Ann Laypoole who finished the evening with four saves.

The Trojans look to make it two in-a-row on Sunday, Sept. 13 when they travel to Oxford, Miss. to take on the Ole Miss Rebels. Game time at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
