Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The UALR Trojans soccer team (2-3) picked up its second victory of
the 2009 campaign Wednesday evening as they defeated the University
of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2-1-2) by the
final score of 2-0 at Burns
Park.
The shutout marked the second time the Trojans have
blanked their opponents this season with the first coming in the season opener
against Murray State. It also marks the 11th career
shutout for junior goalkeeper Jane
Picarelli. Picarelli finished the contest with two saves.
UALR opened the scoring in the 29th minute when sophomore Jacquelyn Paz found the back of the net
for the first time in her career after she dribbled around a defender and
scored from 10 yards out. Aubrey Tafoya was
credited with her first assist of the season on the play.
At the end of the first half, the Trojans had 15 shots
with nine being on goal while the Golden Lions had just three shots, two of
which were on frame.
In the second half, junior Danielle Dunsworth widened the gap to 2-0 in the 73rd minute when
she scored on a penalty kick after being fouled in the box. The goal for
Dunsworth was her first of the year and the first since her freshman season in
2007.
For the game, UALR posted 26 shots with 14 on the mark
compared to the Golden Lions' six shots and two on goal. Dunsworth led the way
with six shots for the Trojans, Paz had five attempts and freshman Dana Pearson tallied four shots with
three being on target.
UAPB had two goalkeepers participate in the contest as
Chelsea Klein started and had eight saves before giving way to Bre-Ann Laypoole
who finished the evening with four saves.
The Trojans look to make it two in-a-row on Sunday, Sept.
13 when they travel to Oxford,
Miss. to take on the Ole Miss
Rebels. Game time at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
