Box Score OXFORD, Miss. - The
UALR Trojans soccer team (2-4) failed to find the scoreboard and was unable to
slow an Ole Miss Rebels (5-1) offensive attack that managed to find the back of
the net eight times Sunday afternoon at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
Ole Miss, who came into the game with four previous
shutout victories, including a 1-0 win at No. 24 Memphis, continued their solid
play against the Trojans as they picked up their fifth shutout in as many
tries.
The Rebels racked up 36 shots on the day with 17 being on
goal while UALR managed just seven shots with three on goal.
The Ole Miss attack started very early as they dented the
scoreboard in the first minute when Kendyl Mygatt set Kelsey Breathitt up for
her second score of the season. Just 14 minutes later, that same duo struck
again when Breathitt found the back of the net on a header after being served
from Mygatt.
Ole Miss took a 3-0 advantage into half time after a goal
in the final minute of the half by Danielle Johnson.
The Rebel attack continued to press in the second half as
Taylor Cunningham scored her fifth goal of the year in the 50th minute and
Dylan Jordan got her first goal of the year when she struck from eight yards
out to make the score 5-0.
Ole Miss went on to score three more times in the final 25
minutes as Emily Perkins, Alyssa Smith and Courtney Messina all scored their
first goals of the year in the 68th, 73rd and 85th minutes respectively.
Of UALR's seven shots, Christina Veasley and Kristen
Semko had two apiece with one being on goal. Freshman Dana Pearson was the only other Trojan to record a shot on goal on
the afternoon.
The Trojans will be back in action Friday, Sept. 18 when
they travel to Hammond, La.
to take on Southeastern Louisiana where they
hope to pick up their first road win of the 2009 campaign. Game time is set for
4:30 p.m.
