Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The UALR Trojans soccer team (1-3)
were able to pull even with the Missouri State Bears (2-2) early in the second
half but eventually fell 3-1 as the Bears got two goals in the closing 20
minutes Friday night at the Burns Park Soccer Complex.
The Bears tallied 23 shots with 13 being on goal compared
to UALR's 13 shots with nine on goal in the contest.
Missouri State opened the scoring just 12:50 into
the game when Rachel Weimer scored her second goal of the year from ten yards
out.
The teams battled back and forth and went into halftime
with no further scoring.
The UALR offense came to life in the 55th minute as
sophomore forward Christina Veasley
scored after being served on a beautiful touch pass from fellow sophomore
teammate Rachael Maina. It was
Veasley's team-best third goal of the year and the assist was Maina's first.
Megan Jaskowiak answered with what would be the
game-winning goal in the 73rd minute when she scored from 12 yards out in the
middle of the box thanks to a pass from the side of the box by Tara Bailes. The
Bears built on their lead just six minutes later when Michelle Sommer scored
her first goal of the 2009 campaign after taking a pass from Jaskowiak.
Jessica Teahan played all 90 minutes in goal for the
Bears, earning seven saves. Jane
Picarelli went the distance for the Trojans earning nine saves.
The Trojans get back in action next Wednesday, Sept. 9
when they play host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Game time at Burns Park
is set for 7 p.m.
