Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. - The UALR women's soccer team
(5-10, 1-5 SBC) dropped a 2-0 decision to Louisiana-Lafayette (8-7, 3-3 SBC)
Sunday afternoon. Following a scoreless
first half, the Rajin' Cajuns produced two goals in the final 45 minutes to
prevent the Trojans from capturing their second consecutive win.
"We gave a
great physical effort from top to bottom," said head coach Freddy Delgado. "But mentally, we did not stick to our game
plan. Against tough Sun Belt competition,
you always have to be at your physical, mental and emotional best in order to
get a win."
For almost
three-quarters of the soccer match, neither UALR nor Louisiana-Lafayette were
able find the back of the net. At the
end of the opening frame, the Cajuns led in total shots, 8-4, with the Trojans
holding the edge in shots on goal, 2-1.
Louisiana-Lafayette
would finally generate some offense late in the second half, however.
At the
66:10 mark, Courtney Hofland scored her second goal of the season off a pass
from Cayla Chapman to break the scoreless tie.
Shortly
thereafter, Brooke Perry headed in a Megan Riley free kick at the 79:54 mark to
give the Cajuns a late two-goal lead.
For the
game, Louisiana-Lafayette held advantages in total shots (17-6), shots on goal
(6-3) and corner kicks (5-1).
Each of
UALR's three shots on goal came off the foot of Kristen Semko. The junior
was coming off a game against ULM
on Friday night that saw her score her third goal of the season.
Senior Jane Picarelli made four saves in goal
for the Trojans. On the other side,
Amanda Moorefield came up with threes tops for the Cajuns.
UALR will
now return home for a three-game home stand that will begin next Friday and
continue through the following Thursday.
The Trojans
will host Troy on Friday, October 15, at 7 p.m.
before taking on South Alabama on Sunday,
October 17, at 1 p.m. North Texas will
come to Little Rock
on Thursday, October 21, to conclude the Trojan home stand.
