Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The UALR women's soccer team
(5-11, 1-6 SBC) dropped a 2-1 decision to Sun Belt Conference foe Troy (9-5-1, 4-3 SBC) Friday night at Burns Park. Taylor Gabbert scored UALR's lone goal while Jane
Picarelli and Michelle Pittman combined to make eight saves.
In a tough
match in front of a spirited UALR crowd, the hometown Trojans battled back to
tie the contest in the second half before surrendering the game-winner in the
76th minute. In addition to
Gabbert, Kristen Semko, Aubrey Tafoya and Olivia Carrasco led the UALR
offense by putting shots on frame.
Troy, entering the match on a two-game
losing streak, took an early lead in the game's 8th minute when Jill
Pinder took a pass from Mary Morris and beat Picarelli to the top right
corner.
The goal
was Pinder's third of the season and would be the only tally for either team in
the opening frame.
However,
both the UALR and Troy
offenses came alive in the second half, combining for 17 shots and two goals
over the final 45 minutes.
UALR
scored the equalizer in the game's 61st minute. Gabbert scored her third goal of the season
after receiving a long pass from Danielle Dunsworth and beating Troy keeper Ashley Branham on a run out.
Troy would score the go-ahead goal in
the 76th minute. Ruth
Sutcliffe scored her team-leading eight goal of the season on a run out that
ended with her beating Pittman with a shot into the top right corner of the
net.
For the
game, Troy
outshot UALR 15-10, including 10-5 in shots on goal.
Pittman,
while seeing significant minutes in the second half, stopped six shots. Picarelli managed two saves while playing the
first half in goal for UALR.
UALR will
return to Burns Park
on Sunday to take on another SBC opponent, South Alabama. Kick off is slated for 1 p.m.
