Box Score TULSA, Okla. - The UALR women's soccer team (0-1) lost its season opener to Oral Roberts (1-0), 2-0, Friday night in their opening game of the Crowne Plaza - Tulsa Invitational in Tulsa, Okla.
"We actually started the game very well, but we were just never able to establish ourselves the way we really wanted," said head coach Freddy Delgado. "The credit goes to Oral Roberts for that. They are a good, solid team."
The Golden Eagles found the net twice on the night, once in each period of play. Lorena Soto broke a scoreless tie in the 33rd minute when she took a pass from Jordan Parsons on the right side and connected from 18 yards out, giving Oral Roberts a 1-0 lead. Soto picked up an assist on the Golden Eagles' second goal of the night, as she and teammate Whitney Booth teamed on a counter attack. Booth fed Maria Grados, who connected on the clincher with just nine seconds remaining in the match.
Offensively, the Trojans were outshot on the night, 21-10, including 12-5 in shots on goal. Danielle Carr and Danielle Dunsworth each contributed two shots apiece, while each of UALR's five shots on goal came from five different players.
UALR goalkeeper Jane Picarelli made nine saves on the night, but it was not enough for the Trojans to win their season opener for the second straight season.
"The good news is it's just the first game of the season," said Delgado. "We still have a lot of games ahead of us."
The Trojans will stay put for their second game of the season, as they will take on Tulsa at Hurricane Stadium this Sunday, Aug. 22 at 3:30 p.m.
