Box Score TULSA, Okla. - The UALR women's soccer team (0-2)
fell to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (2-0), 5-1, Sunday afternoon at Hurricane
Stadium. Danielle Dunsworth scored the lone goal
for the Trojans while goalkeepers Jane Picarelli and Michelle
Pittman
combined to make nine saves in defeat.
The
Trojans ran into trouble early in the contest and had trouble disrupting the
offensive momentum of the Hurricane. Tulsa, coming off a 4-0 defeat of
Northwestern State, scored all five of their goals before the end of the first
period.
The
first came in the 17th minute of action, when Jordan O'Brien connected off a
free kick from 20 yards out to give the Hurricane an early 1-0 lead.
Claire
Nicholson doubled the Hurricane lead in the 22nd minute when she scored her
second goal of the season, taking a cross from Kelsey Killion and scoring from
21 yards out.
Shortly
thereafter, Stephanie Aitken made the score 3-0 when she chipped in her second
goal of the season from just two yards out in the 26th minute. Shelby
Martin picked up the assist on the play.
Tulsa
quickly added two more goals before the end of the first period. Aitken
scored her second of the game off a straightaway shot from 18 yards while
Danielle Hughes headed another in just seconds before the halftime horn
sounded. Both goals came in the final minute of the half.
UALR's
only goal came in the 81st minute when Dunsworth took a pass from Kristen
Semko,
dribbled through traffic and fired a shot into the lower left corner of the
net. Semko was credited with the assist, while the goal was Dunsworth's
first of the young season.
The
Trojans were outshot on the night, 31-4, including 14-1 in shots on goal.
For the game, UALR committed ten fouls compared to Tulsa's four.
For
their efforts, Semko and Rachel Maina were each named to
the Crowne Plaza - Tulsa Invitational All-Tournament Team.
UALR
will return to action Friday, Aug. 27, when they will travel to Springfield,
Mo., to take on Missouri State at Plaster Field. The Trojans and the
Bears will kick off at 7 p.m.
