Tulsa Defeats UALR, 5-1

Box Score

TULSA, Okla. - The UALR women's soccer team (0-2) fell to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (2-0), 5-1, Sunday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium.  Danielle Dunsworth scored the lone goal for the Trojans while goalkeepers Jane Picarelli and Michelle Pittman combined to make nine saves in defeat.

The Trojans ran into trouble early in the contest and had trouble disrupting the offensive momentum of the Hurricane.  Tulsa, coming off a 4-0 defeat of Northwestern State, scored all five of their goals before the end of the first period.

The first came in the 17th minute of action, when Jordan O'Brien connected off a free kick from 20 yards out to give the Hurricane an early 1-0 lead.

Claire Nicholson doubled the Hurricane lead in the 22nd minute when she scored her second goal of the season, taking a cross from Kelsey Killion and scoring from 21 yards out.

Shortly thereafter, Stephanie Aitken made the score 3-0 when she chipped in her second goal of the season from just two yards out in the 26th minute.  Shelby Martin picked up the assist on the play.

Tulsa quickly added two more goals before the end of the first period.  Aitken scored her second of the game off a straightaway shot from 18 yards while Danielle Hughes headed another in just seconds before the halftime horn sounded.  Both goals came in the final minute of the half.

UALR's only goal came in the 81st minute when Dunsworth took a pass from Kristen Semko, dribbled through traffic and fired a shot into the lower left corner of the net.  Semko was credited with the assist, while the goal was Dunsworth's first of the young season.

The Trojans were outshot on the night, 31-4, including 14-1 in shots on goal.  For the game, UALR committed ten fouls compared to Tulsa's four.

For their efforts, Semko and Rachel Maina were each named to the Crowne Plaza - Tulsa Invitational All-Tournament Team.

UALR will return to action Friday, Aug. 27, when they will travel to Springfield, Mo., to take on Missouri State at Plaster Field.  The Trojans and the Bears will kick off at 7 p.m.
