Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The UALR women's soccer team (0-3) was unable to pick up its first victory of the season Friday night, as they fell to Missouri State (1-1) by a score of 3-0 at Plaster Field. Senior goalkeeper Jane Picarelli made six saves in the loss.
The two teams were tied until the 26th minute when Taylor Laughlin was able to put one past Picarelli to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead. Brooke Williams and Christine Cross picked up assists on the play.
The Bears went up 2-0 later in the half, as Rachel Weiner headed in a cross from Shelby Stewart in the 41st minute.
Laughlin scored her second goal of the game in the 66th minute when she put back a Nia Williams shot that deflected off the crossbar, giving Missouri State a 3-0 lead.
For the night, the Bears outshot the Trojans 23-10, including 10-3 in shots on goal. Missouri State had four corner kicks to UALR's two, while the Trojans were whistled for seven fouls compared to the Bears' five.
UALR's three shots on goal came courtesy of Danielle Dunsworth and Christina Veasley, who contributed two and one, respectively.
UALR returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 1, when they will travel to Conway for an early afternoon contest against Central Arkansas. Kick off is slated for 2 p.m.
