Box Score CONWAY, Ark. - The UALR women's soccer team (1-3) picked up its first victory of the season Wednesday afternoon, as they defeated the UCA Bears (1-2), 3-0, at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.
The Trojans controlled the contest from beginning to end, scoring their first goal in just the ninth minute and adding two more after halftime. For the game, they outshot the Bears 14-6, including 9-1 in shots on goal.
As mentioned, UALR got on the board in the ninth minute when Kristen Semko scored her first goal of the season. Semko headed a cross from Rachel Maina into the bottom left part of the net, giving the Trojans an early 1-0 lead.
While that would be the only goal of the first half for UALR, they would continue to do a good job of controlling the offensive momentum. At the end of the first half, UALR had taken five shots to UCA's zero.
The Trojans second goal came in the 65th minute. Taylor Gabbert scored off a corner kick, while Jacquelyn Paz and Dana Pearson were credited with assists on the play. The goal was Gabbert's first of the year.
The third and final goal of the game for UALR came late in the contest, when Christina Veasley scored off a corner kick from straightaway. For Veasley, the Sun Belt Conference's preseason Player of the Year, it was her first goal of the season.
In all, six different Trojans either scored or assisted on goals, with Semko tallying one of each.
Goalkeeper Jane Picarelli played well throughout the contest, picking up her first shutout of the season.
UALR returns to action this Friday, taking on McNeese State at Burns Park in what will be its first home contest of the season. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
