UALR Loses Heartbreaker to UAPB

Box Score

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The UALR women's soccer team (2-5) dropped their second consecutive match Friday evening, falling to UAPB (4-2) by a score of 2-1 at Pumphrey Soccer Field.  Christina Veasley scored the lone goal for the Trojans and Jane Picarelli made six saves in defeat.

The Trojans, away from home after playing their last two matches at Burns Park, were unable to regain the form they showed last week in victories over UCA and McNeese State.  Despite outshooting the Lady Lions in both halves and 18-10 overall, UALR was never able to take full advantage on the offensive end of the field.

"I give a lot of credit to Arkansas-Pine Bluff," said head coach Freddy Delgado.  "They came out with a lot of heart and a lot of effort, and that's something that we did not play with today."

After a scoreless first half that saw the Trojans outshoot the Lady Lions 8-2, it would be UAPB that lit up the scoreboard at the start of the second half.

Jade West made the score 1-0 when she put one past Picarelli in the 47th minute.  Silvia Fuentes was credited with the assist on the play.

However, it would not take long for UALR to answer.  Veasley scored her team-leading third goal of the season when she took a pass from Holly Holland and connected in the 63rd minute, tying the game at one.  The assist was Holland's first of the season.

Unfortunately for the Trojans, the score would not stay tied for long.

Nicole Parks-Powell scored what proved to be the game winner shortly thereafter in the 66th minute.  Again, Fuentes was credited with the assist.

The 18 shots UALR put up were its second-most all season, while its ten shots on goal tied a season high.

The Trojans will continue their road trip on Sunday when they travel to St. Louis to take on the Stetson University Hatters.  UALR and Stetson will kick off at 1 p.m.

UALR's next home match will be on Wednesday, Sept. 15, when Mississippi Valley State comes calling to Burns Park for a 5 p.m. match.
