Box Score TROY, Ala. - Ashley Branham stopped all seven
shots she faced as Troy
(8-7-1, 3-4-0 SBC) snapped UALR's (7-9-0, 3-4-0 SBC) two-game win streak,
blanking the Trojans by a 2-0 final at Jesse H. Colley Track/Soccer Complex on Friday.
Alissa Jones and Chelsey Williams did all the scoring for Troy, while the loss drops UALR to 1-8 on the
road this season.
Junior Michelle Pittman made four saves in
goal for the Trojans, while sophomore Adrianna
Queen led all UALR players with five shots on the night. Senior Christina Veasley put up three on the
night, while senior Rachael Maina
contributed two.
Troy outshot UALR 14-12, including 7-6
in shots on goal. Queen, Veasley and Maina each put two shots on frame for
UALR.
Troy scored its first goal in the 10th
minute of the match. Jones tallied her seventh goal of the year and made it a
1-0 match when she connected on a header received from Sydney Eppler at the
9:08 mark.
UALR
wouldn't allow the second goal until the 67:27 mark, when Chelsey Williams,
again off a helper from Eppler, scored her eighth goal of the year on another
header to give Troy
a two-goal advantage.
UALR
actually outshot Troy
in the second half, 8-5, but came up empty handed as Branham stopped all four
shots put on frame in the half.
Corner
kicks were tied at four apiece, while Troy
was whistled for six fouls compared to four for UALR.
Troy leads the all-time series between
the two squads, 4-3.
The
Trojans will now head to Mobile, Ala., for their matchup with South
Alabama at "The Cage" on Sunday. First kick is slated for 1 p.m.
