Box Score LITTLE ROCK - UALR was handed just its second home defeat of the season Sunday afternoon at Burns Park, as the Trojans (7-12-0, 3-7-0 SBC) fell to Denver (15-3-0, 9-1-0 SBC) by a 2-0 final. Kristen Hamilton scored both goals for the Pioneers while junior Michelle Pittman tied a career high with nine saves in goal for UALR.
Denver outshot UALR, 16-8, on the day, including 11-5 in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Lara Campbell made five stops to get the shutout for the Pioneer defense.
Hamilton made it a 1-0 contest 18 minutes into the match, collecting a pass from teammate Cassidy Larson in the center of the box and beating Pittman to the lower right corner.
Denver went up 2-0 on Hamilton's second goal at the 67:00 mark. The sophomore accepted a pass from Anna Willis and beat the keeper from just over 10 yards out to make it a two-sore contest with less than 25 minutes to play.
The Pioneers led in corner kicks on the day, 10-1, and were whistled for seven fouls compared to six for UALR.
Offensively, the Trojans were led by seniors Kristen Semko and Rachael Maina. Both players put up two shots on goal on the day.
Being the final home match of the season, seven UALR seniors were honored prior to the start of the match. In addition to Semko and Maina, Taylor Gabbert, Jacquelyn Paz, Aubrey Tafoya, Christina Veasley and Megan Zollinger were playing in the final home match of their collegiate careers on Sunday.
The Trojans will return to action in their final home match of the season on Friday when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark., for their annual matchup with in-state rival Arkansas Sate.
