Box Score JONESBORO, Ark. - Three goals in the first 30 minutes of the match propelled Arkansas State (7-9-3, 5-5-1 SBC) to a 4-0 win over UALR (7-13-0, 3-8-0 SBC) Friday afternoon in Jonesboro. Lyndsey Patterson scored two goals, while goalkeepers Megan Stolzfus and Bethany Kremer combined to make nine saves for the shutout.
Offensively, seniors Kristen Semko, Rachael Maina, Taylor Gabbert and Jacquelyn Paz combined for nine of the Trojans' 15 shots on the day. Freshmen Ariel Galletti and Lexus Van Pelt chipped in with three shots apiece.
Getting her first career start in goal, freshman Rebecca Clements made four saves while surrendering four goals.
UALR was playing shorthanded on Friday. Senior Christina Veasley and sophomore Adrianna Queen, two regular starters, were unable to play in the season-ending match due to injury.
Arkansas State's first goal was scored just 3:40 into the match. Jena' Kelly netted her first score of the season from just inside the left edge of the box. Jessica Jingblad and Christina Fink were credited with assists on the play.
The Red Wolves made the score 2-0 at the 11:11 mark. Patterson scored the first of her two goals from the top of the box, while Kelley and Jingblad picked up assists.
Patterson's second score came at the 25:12 mark, as she took a pass from Tory Pitts and floated a shot over Clements to give ASU an early 3-0 lead.
Arkansas State put its final tally on the board at the 82:42 mark. Michele Clark received a pass from Kara Nitti at the top of the box and beat the UALR defense to bring the game to its final score.
ASU outshot UALR, 17-15, while corner kicks were tied at four each. The Red Wolves were whistled for 11 fouls compared to 10 for the Trojans.
Friday's loss ends the Trojans' 2011 season, as UALR did not qualify for the Sun Belt Tournament.
Seven different Trojans were playing in their final match. Next year, UALR will have to replace Gabbert, Maina, Paz, Semko, Aubrey Tafoya, Veasley and Megan Zollinger, seven of their most dependable and consistent performers over the past four seasons.
