- Troy (6-8-1, 1-4-0 SBC) scored three first half goals en route to a 4-0 win
over UALR (1-13-0, 0-6-0 SBC) at the Jesse H. Colley Track/Soccer Complex on
Sunday. The win was Troy's first in Sun Belt play this season.
Chelsey Williams led the offensive charge for Troy,
scoring two goals on five shots in just 40 minutes of work. Louise Cheng and
MaddieTieken added goals to round out Troy's offensive attack.
Troy led in total shots, 16-14, while shots on goal
were tied at seven apiece. Williams' five shots and five shots on goal paced
Troy in both categories.
Junior Adrianna
Queen put up team highs in shots (4) and shots on goal (2) for UALR.
Sophomore Lexus VanPelt added three
shots while freshman Galya Cohen put
up two.
Freshman Shantel
Wittke got the start in goal for the Trojans and played all 90 minutes,
making three saves and allowing all four goals. Maddie Winter made seven stops
and went the distance in goal for Troy to pick up the shutout.
Cheng got the offense going for Troy in the 19th
minute when she connected off a feed from teammate Cecilia Thorngren to make it
a 1-0 contest. Williams notched her first goal of the afternoon shortly
thereafter, receiving a pass from Tieken and scoring Troy's second goal of the
half. It was Tieken's turn next, as she scored in the 31st minute to
make it 3-0 heading into the half. Thorngren and Emily Sleeman were both
credited with assists on Tieken's.
Finally, Williams scored her second goal of the game
and seventh of the season at the 78:03 mark off an assists from Cheng to bring
the match to its final 4-0 tally.
UALR led in corner kicks, 7-3, and fouls, 7-6.
Despite Troy's early lead, shots were tied at 8-all at
halftime. Troy led 8-6 in shots after intermission.
UALR returns to action next Sunday, Oct. 14 when they
host North Texas at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex. Start time is
set for 1 p.m.
