Beginning in the fall of 2012, the UALR soccer and
track and field teams will have a new facility to call home on the UALR campus.
Located at the site of the former Coleman Diary near the intersection of Asher
and University Avenues, the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex becomes the
first on-campus facility for soccer and track and field in the school's
history.
Both the soccer field and eight-lane track feature
state-of-the-art Polytan synthetic surfacing. In addition, the NCAA-approved
facility boasts stadium lights, a scoreboard and a top-of-the-line irrigation
system. A press box with internet capability stands adjacent to the field and houses
the UALR media and sports information work areas. Attached to the press box is
a concessions area, as well as a grandstand providing seating for 300 people. A
parking lot with more than 130 spaces sits behind the grandstand and press box.
The track and
field area also features jump pits for the long jump and triple jump, as well
as areas for high jump and pole vaulting. Areas for the shot put, discus,
hammer and javelin throws are located on the outer border of the track.

"Buddy" Coleman and his sons presented UALR with a gift of 10 acres
of what was part of the oldest dairy farm west of the Mississippi, paving the
way for the development of the Recreation and Sports Complex. Buddy, Walt, Bob,
Charlie and Cherb Coleman made the land transfer to UALR as part of the
University's "It's Time For UALR" comprehensive campaign. The Coleman
land parcel was part of the family's original 200 acre farm between Coleman and
Fourche creeks, where the family had raised milk cows since the Civil War.
The Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex is located near the intersection of Asher and University Avenues, behind University
Village Apartments. To reach the facility from the heart of UALR's campus, head
south on University Avenue towards University Plaza and turn left at Asher
Avenue. Make your first right onto the frontage road running adjacent to Asher
Avenue, and follow it towards University Village apartments. The facility
entrance will be on your right just before you reach the apartments.
