Box Score OXFORD,
Miss.
- UALR (0-4-0) is still searching for its first win of the 2012 season after
falling by an 8-0 final to Ole Miss (5-0-0) Friday night at Ole Miss Soccer
Stadium. Mandy McCalla and Olivia Harrison each lit up the scoreboard twice to
lead the Rebel offense.
Ole Miss outshot the Trojans 31-4 in the match,
including 18-2 in shots on goal. Sophomores Ariel Galletti and Alyson
Rohane put the two shots on target for UALR, while sophomore Lexus VanPelt and freshman Ashley Asuncion contributed the
remaining two shots.
Freshman Shantel
Wittke made her second career start on Friday, playing 60 minutes, making
nine saves and allowing six scores. Junior Natalie
Marsh came on in relief in the second half and picked up a save while
allowing two goals over the final 30 minutes. The loss drops Wittke to 0-2-0 on
the year.
Kelly McCormick started in goal for the Rebels and made
one save in 45 minutes of action. Emily Wilbur and Brianna Supulski split time
in the second half, with Supulski getting the start and playing 29 minutes
before being relieved. Wilbur made one save in her 15 minutes of work.
Ole Miss scored its first goal just under seven minutes
into the match, as Rafaelle Souza took a feed from Bethany Bunker and beat
Wittke for her fifth goal of the season.
Following a seven-minute lull, McCalla was able to
slip pass the Trojan defense for two scores in a four-minute span to increase
the Ole Miss lead to three. The midfielder added the Rebels' second score of
the match in the 15th minute, accepting a pass from Alix Hidal and
lofting a shot over the head of Wittke to make it 2-0. McCalla's second score
came shortly thereafter at the 18:25 mark, as she received a cross from Souza
in the box and connected to give the Rebels a 3-0 lead less than 20 minutes in.
Harrison added the Rebels' fourth goal of the half at
the 31:41 mark. Harrison dribbled the ball into the middle of the box before
beating Wittke with a shot that deflected off the freshman keeper's hands
before finding the back of the net.
The Rebels connected on their fifth score just before
the end of the half. After being pulled down inside the box, Sara Coleman
served up a penalty kick that was initially saved by Wittke. However, the
rebound bounced back to Coleman, who this time was able to put her shot past
Wittke and give Ole Miss a 5-0 lead heading into halftime.
Ole Miss served up 23 shots total in the first half, 14
of which were on goal, compared to just one shot for the Trojans.
Jennifer Miller's score in the 53rd minute
pushed the Ole Miss lead to six, while a score by Brooke Theobald (73:49) and Harrison's
second of the night (74:50) put the Rebels on top 8-0.
UALR will next play at in-state foe UCA on Wednesday,
Sept. 5 at 5 p.m.
