- Louisiana's Hayden Gibson broke a scoreless tie in the 81st minute
to lift the Ragin' Cajuns (7-5-0, 1-1-0 SBC) to a 1-0 win over the UALR Trojans
(1-10-0, 0-3-0 SBC) Friday night at the Coleman Sports & Recreation
Complex. Freshman Shantel Wittke
played stellar in goal for the Trojans, making seven stops while playing all 90
minutes for just the second time in her career.
The Cajuns' Amanda Moorefield made four saves to pick
up the shutout and improve her record to 7-5-0 on the season. The UALR offense
put up 10 shots on the night, four of which were on target, and were led by
senior Olivia Carrasco, junior Paige Mason and sophomore Ariel Galletti with two shots each.
Both of Carrasco's shots were on frame to lead the Trojans in shots on goal.
The two teams played nearly even on both ends of the
field throughout the first half. Louisiana led in shots, 9-7, at the intermission,
but the Trojans held the edge in shots on goal, 4-3. The Cajuns put just one
goal on the board but controlled the ball for the majority of the second half.
UL led in total shots, 13-3, and corner kicks, 10-1, after halftime.
Gibson's game-winner came at the 80:06 mark, shortly
after a UL corner kick. Gibson received a feed from teammate Melissa Minton and
beat Wittke straightaway to the top-right corner. The score was Gibson's
team-leading fifth of the year.
The Trojans had one good look at the equalizer in the
closing minutes, as junior Adrianna
Queen sailed a shot just over the crossbar from 10 yards out.
UL's Erin Lynn led all players with five shots on the
night. Delaina McGee put up four shots, while Kayla Henrie put all three of her
shots on frame to pace the Cajuns in shots on goal.
UALR returns to action on Sunday when they host ULM at
the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex. First kick is slated for 1 p.m.
