Texas State Blanks Soccer 4-0; Tournament Berth Must Wait

Box Score

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The UALR soccer team lost at Texas State by a 4-0 score on Friday night, and now the Trojans will have to wait until Sunday to see if they will be in the conference tournament for the first time since 2009.

The Bobcats (6-8-2, 3-4-1 SBC) scored two goals in the first half and added one more in the second, controlling most of the play and keeping the Trojans (4-13, 1-7) off the scoreboard in their final match of the regular season.

UALR took six shots on goal, including two by Alyson Rohane, but Texas State goalie Caitlyn Rinehart was equal to all of them. Kylie Wilson made six saves of her own in the loss for the Trojans.

Sydney Curry scored the Bobcats' first goal in the 20th minute on a corner kick that went untouched into the net. Kelsie Townsend struck next in the 42nd minute, deflecting her shot off a UALR defender. Texas State's final score came in the 76 minute when Gabbi Cottee put the ball past Wilson. Jourdan Brown iced the game with an 88th-minute strike.

UALR's postseason fate now rests in the hands of ULM. If the Warhawks lose on Sunday against South Alabama, the Trojans will take the eighth and final spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. UALR defeated ULM 1-0 earlier in the year and as a result owns the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Warhawks that would put UALR into the tournament even if the teams finish tied with three points.

Should UALR advance to the conference tournament, its first game will be on Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. in San Marcos against the league's top seed.
