Soccer Nets Tie With Georgia State

Box Score

DECATUR, Ga. – Louise Kallin's goal with 11 minutes remaining gave the UALR soccer team a 1-0 lead against Georgia State, but the lead would not hold.

Kallin's strike in the 79th minute was followed by a goal from Panthers forward Whitney Ravan with four minutes to play, and neither team scored in overtime on their way to a 1-1 tie at the GSU Soccer Complex on Friday night.

UALR (9-2-1, 0-2-1 Sun Belt Conference) had not played in an overtime game since 2011 and had not tied a game since 2010. The Trojans and Panthers (3-6-4, 1-1-1) remain tied at 1-1-1 all-time against each other.

For the second straight game, UALR saw itself gain a lead and hold it into the waning minutes of the match. Kallin converted on a header off a well-placed cross by Hayley Fowle, scoring her team-high seventh goal of the season. Fowle registered a point in her first match since Aug. 24 against Southern.

The Trojan victory was not meant to be. Ravan got an unassisted goal with 3:55 left on the clock after the ball was misplayed by the Trojans to her. She chipped it over UALR's Sara Cavanagh to equalize and force overtime.

In the extra period, UALR was outshot 4-2 and Cavanagh made two saves in the second overtime to keep the score level. Mikayla Uyokpeyi had a shot in the 92nd minute, but Christa Fox was there for the Panthers to protect her net.

With just 17 seconds remaining, UALR earned itself a point in the game with a team save as the Trojans cleared the ball off the line when GSU's Taina Anglade took a shot.

In the two regulation periods, the contest was all one-sided in favor of UALR. Through 90 minutes, the Trojans led in shots 12-6 and in shots on goal 3-2. UALR also took four corner kicks in the first two halves but could not convert until 10 minutes remained.

Cavanagh (5-1-1) finished the night with four saves and played in her 1,000th career minute during the contest. Cavanagh, Amanda Wilkinson, Kailie Holloway, Linnea Kogsta, Fali Garuba and Lauren Brownrigg played all 110 minutes for UALR. Alyson Rohane and Hali Long also eclipsed 100 minutes on the night.

The Trojans stay in The Peach State for their next game when they face Georgia Southern on Sunday morning. UALR and the Panthers square off at 11 a.m. in Statesboro.
