Trojans Pick Up Point With Tie at Appalachian State

Box Score

BOONE, N.C. – The Little Rock soccer team picked up its first points of the Sun Belt Conference season on Sunday, tying Appalachian State 1-1 on the Mountaineers' home turf.

Playing in rain for large portions of the match, the Trojans got a first-half goal from Mikayla Uyokpeyi to take the lead but surrendered the lead in the second half. Neither team was able to score in overtime and settled for the tie.

Sunday marked the third consecutive overtime game for Little Rock (5-5-2, 0-1-1 Sun Belt Conference) and was just the second of the year for App State (5-3-3, 1-0-1). The Trojans have now played 324 minutes over the last three contests.

The first half saw very few shots on goal until the latter stages, and each team had just three at the halftime break.

Just before the break, though, Uyokpeyi got the Trojans on board with a strike in the 42nd minute. Uyokpeyi's goal came off a pass from Caitlyn Eddy, the freshman's team-leading fifth of the year. Uyokpeyi's tally was her second of the year, and it gave Little Rock a 1-0 lead at the half.

The Trojan offense was unable to take a shot in the second half as the Mountaineers' defense buckled down. Appalachian State got the game-tying goal in the 66th minute as Jane Cline took a pass from Aubrey Fletcher and put the ball in the back of the net.

Neither team took a shot for the rest of the second half, and the Trojans headed to overtime for the third consecutive game.

The first overtime continued the trend of no shots on goal, as neither team managed one. The Mountaineers shot twice, but both were wide of the target. In the second overtime period, Trojan goalie Sara Small had to make one save to keep the team alive.

Small finished the contest with three saves, while Little Rock forced Megan Roberson to make two saves throughout the game. At the end of the night, the Mountaineers outshot the Trojans 10-6 and had a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.

With their season-long, four-game road trip behind them, the Trojans will return to the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex for their final four home games of the season. Next up is Friday night's Trojan Tailgate against Georgia Southern. Tailgating activities are set for 6 p.m., and kickoff will be at 7.
