LITTLE ROCK – The home schedule and Sun Belt Conference regular-season play comes to its conclusion this weekend for the Trojan soccer team.
Â
Little Rock will begin its final two home games on Friday at 7 p.m. when Georgia Southern comes to the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex. That game will be followed by Sunday's regular-season home finale against Troy at 1 p.m.
This weekend, the Trojans will be hosting Family Weekend as well, where the student-athletes' families will be in attendance. On Friday, food trucks from Katmandu Momo, Roxy's Twisted Sandwiches and Hot Rod Wieners will be in the parking lot to feed hungry Trojan fans.
Â
Little Rock enters this weekend in great shape to make the conference tournament, as the Trojans are tied for third place in the league standings. A victory in either game this weekend – or plenty of other combinations of events – would clinch Little Rock a berth in the league tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
If the Trojans stay in third place or even drop to fourth, they would seal their highest-ever finish in the Sun Belt for the second straight year.
Â
Last weekend, Little Rock maintained its third-place standing by knocking off Georgia State 2-1. Arola Aparicio and
Quin Wilkes each had a goal and an assist in the contest as Little Rock overcame a 1-0 deficit following a fourth-minute Georgia State goal.
Â
Little Rock's RPI is also on the rise, as the Trojans are currently ranked No. 98 in the nation. That number is the highest ever in program history and up 13 spots from last week's national ranking.
Â
Testing the Trojans this weekend will be two teams in desperate need of wins as the season comes to its conclusion. Friday's opponent, Georgia Southern, is currently in last place in the league standings. The Eagles will need two wins plus some help in order to get into the conference tournament. They hold a 5-9-1 record overall and are 2-6 in the league. Georgia Southern is on a two-game losing streak with its last win coming in overtime against Troy.
Â
Troy, meanwhile, is all alone in sixth place in the league standings with 11 points. Troy is 7-7-3 this year and 3-3-2 in the conference, but the Trojans' place in the league tournament is also not secure. Troy has won two of its last three including a 1-0 victory over three-time defending league tournament champions South Alabama.
