LITTLE ROCK – Fresh off two weekend victories, the Little Rock soccer team is ready to get its road week started on Tuesday as it travels to nearby UAPB for a 3 p.m. game.
Â
Little Rock has plenty of momentum behind it, as the team defeated Missouri State and Memphis on Friday and Sunday, respectively, by identical scores of 2-0. The Trojans scored three of its four goals on headers and had three of its four goals scored by players getting their first career tallies.
Â
Fali Garuba and
Talia Graves scored on headers at Missouri State,
Harrison Hayworth scored on a penalty kick against Memphis and
Hali Long struck off another header against the Tigers on Sunday night.
Â
The Trojans also played excellent defense over the weekend as goalie
Sara Small got two shutouts and stopped all nine shots she faced to take over the Trojans' career lead in goals against average and save percentage. The Trojan defense had to fight off a feisty Memphis attack in the second half on Sunday but forced the Tigers into taking bad-angle shots or attempts from far away.
Â
Little Rock has used more than two-thirds of its roster through four games, as 17 different players have started and 21 have seen game action. Tuesday's game against UAPB may be another opportunity for new faces to see action if substitution patterns from recent games against the Golden Lions come to pass this time. The Trojans have used just under 20 players per game against UAPB over the last three years.
Â
This year's UAPB squad comes into Tuesday's game 0-2 after losing to Oral Roberts and Central Arkansas on the road to open their year. The Trojans have defeated the Golden Lions in their last five meetings and is 7-1 lifetime against UAPB.
